Building the Systems complicated Businesses depend on

Complex businesses don't get simpler. Most of what they run on was never designed, it accrued: rules layered on rules, tools bolted to tools, workarounds that quietly became the process. We build the automation, AI and integration that turn all of it into something dependable, and keep it that way as the business changes.

Built to Evolve, it's in our DNA

The system you launch with shouldn’t be the one you’re running in three years. The businesses we work with change constantly: new products, new regulation, new partners, new scale. A system that can’t change with them becomes the problem it was meant to solve.

So we build from simple, well-formed parts. Components that combine, recombine and extend without the whole becoming brittle. The result is a system that gets easier to change, not harder. Every system we’ve built is still growing, years on.

codon.build
emerging from new beginnings

Our new identity – codon – has emerged from Hut Forty Two the way most things emerge: gradually, then obviously.

Hut Forty Two was a name from humble beginnings, picked when the whole thing fit in one room and nobody was thinking about what it would need to say a decade later. It served us well, but the business it was named for is unrecognisable now, and somewhere across those years the work changed shape: we stopped delivering projects and started building systems designed to keep changing, and the way we do that became the thing clients actually came for.

Our brand and identity lagged behind, and Codon is the correction. Same organism, better name for it, and everything else carries forward: the team, the clients, the contact details, the work in flight this morning.

This website is still being curated, and it’s important to us that we get it right. Our previous site is still there if you need it, and we’re always happy to hear from you.

We'll help you evolve your business

Most businesses know roughly where the friction is. It’s the systems that don’t talk to each other, the process that still runs on someone remembering to do it, the tool that nearly does what you need. Fixing any of that properly means understanding the business first, which is where we start.

That might mean integrating systems that were never designed to work together, automating the work that shouldn’t need a person, putting AI where it earns its place rather than where it demonstrates well, or building something new because nothing existing quite fits. Usually it’s some combination, and usually the shape of it isn’t obvious until you’ve talked it through.

So talk it through with us. The first conversation is free and comes with no obligation, and even if we’re not the right fit you’ll leave with a clearer view of what you’re dealing with.
